What's the allure to a highschool girl the prospect of dating an "upperclman" or a "football player"?

Or an adult woman dating a doctor, or pro football player or a lead singer in a band or a CEO or any other nondescript social status symbol. Many times you'll here women swoon over the talk of these social positions- even without contemplating the particular characteristics of the man attached to the position. What is the general allure here (that the average woman seems to enjoy)- when there has been no mention at all as to the man's character or intellect, wit, or proclivity for trust (you know the things that women are REALLY attracted to?)
